Cube Calculator
How many Celestial materials for one Cosmic in Task Bar Hero? Exact averages plus best and worst case, solved from the game's own synthesis odds.
Frequently asked questions
How many Celestial materials do I need for one Cosmic in Task Bar Hero?
About 4,000 Celestial materials on average. A single synthesis of 9 Celestial has only a 0.0167% chance of returning a Cosmic outright, but that is not the route most runs take - the realistic path is Celestial into Divine and Divine into Cosmic, which is far cheaper than chasing the direct jump. Luck dominates: half of all attempts finish by roughly 2,900 materials, the luckiest 5% finish under about 400, and the unluckiest 5% need more than 11,000.
How does material synthesis work in Task Bar Hero?
Nine materials of one grade go into the cube and exactly one material comes out. The output grade is rolled from the game's own odds table, which depends only on the grade you put in - not on the recipe tier and not on item level, since every material synthesis output is level 1. The result is usually one grade higher, but from Immortal upward it can also return the same grade you put in, and a rare roll can skip a grade entirely.
Why is the average higher than the typical result?
Because the outcome distribution is heavily skewed. Most runs finish well below the average, while a small number of very unlucky runs cost many times more and drag the mean upward. That is why this calculator shows the median and the 5th and 95th percentiles alongside the average - budgeting from the average alone will leave you short about half the time.
Are by-products wasted when synthesising?
No. A synthesis never downgrades, so everything it returns is at least as good as what went in. From Immortal upward a synthesis can hand back the same grade you supplied, and those materials go straight back onto the pile to be used again. This calculator already accounts for that recycling, which is why the totals are lower than a simple divide-by-the-odds estimate.
