Every chest in Task Bar Hero carries its own re-drop cooldown, read from the game's DropCooldown column. 94 of the 114 boxes are gated by one; the remaining 20 have no cooldown at all.
The cooldown is per box level, not per stage — switching which stage you farm does not dodge it. A controlled test alternating between two guaranteed-drop boxes on separate cooldowns produced zero boxes across six minutes, which means the gate sits above the individual box.
